In this module we’re going to explore coaching skills and language coaching skills. Here are some questions we’ll be exploring.

  • What is the difference between a language teacher and a language coach?
  • How is language coaching different from coaching?
  • Is becoming a language coach just a question of adopting new techniques or does it require a deeper shift in our professional identity?
  • What connections can we make between language coaching and critical thinking and cognitive flexibility?
  • What role can art (poetry, stories, etc.) play in facilitating new thinking?
  • How can the concept of embodied cognition (c.f. Guy Claxton) and focusing techniques (c.f. Gene Gendlin) be used in the language coaching process?
