In this short course you’ll find out how to become a more effective language learner and teacher using the lexical approach. We’ll begin by exploring the many clear benefits of this approach, which include increased fluency and accuracy as well as an enhanced ability to notice chunks in authentic input.
You’ll also develop your ability to teach lexically, using tools such as collocations dictionaries (Ozdic, Sketch Engine and Just the Word) and ChatGPT. What’s more, you’ll learn how to teach grammar lexically in a way that is more accessible to less analytic students. Some key concepts addressed include frequency and typicality, register, connotation and denotation, delexicalised verbs and functional language.
